Facts about the NEWDLSA Perpetual Programs |
Perpetual Programs will enable children to become safer in and around water more rapidly.
We have been developing our program for over 16 years, but we will never stop looking for better ways to deliver our water confidence, water safety and learn-to-swim expertise. We are ever concious that you, our DLSA families, come to us to fulfil an important role in your child's development and safety within the Australian way of life, i.e. learning-to-swim. We have implemented our new Perpetual Program initiative for the upcoming program, now known as Perpetual Program 2, 2010 (P210). Below are some FAQs pertaining to the Perpetual Programs. Please take a moment to read through the items below. If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact our Admin Team at your convenience.
What are Perpetual Programs? Perpetual Programs enable the swimmer to maintain regularity with their progression by providing a continual booking from program to program.
Why change to Perpetual Programs? We, as learn-to-swim professionals, have an obligation to promote the development of water safety for children. As experts in providing water safety and learn-to-swim programs to children we are also obligated to develop programs that will have the greatest impact in achieving the program goals. Perpetual Programs foster a more efficient progression through the complex water confidence and neuromuscular skills needed to achieve a good standard of water safety. This is achieved by the continual booking thus stopping the '3 steps forward, 1 step back' progression of the old Term structure with a break in lessons over the holidays. Perpetual Programs WILL increase the speed in which the children will gain their water confidence, water safety and learn-to-swim skills.
Is this a new concept? No, most high quality, metropolitan learn-to-swim programs around the country have been conducting Perpetual Programs for many years.
What if I want my children to have a rest from swimming from time to time? We understand that sometimes children need a break, which is no problem at all. The DLSA has always had a flexible make-up policy and now we have made it even more so. Make-ups for missed lessons will now be held available for 8 weeks. We are also making make-up classes more available by limiting our total booking capacity to 85% (it was usually 92%). This means that there will be more make-up classes available if needed. Please see our updated Payment & Make-up Policy brochure for details on these and other changes to our make-up policy. If you DO take a break you will not miss out on those lessons. If you don't take a break, you WILL notice the benefits in your child's swimming development and progression.
What will happen to the Booster Block Program? Booster Blocks will still be available for everyone. These will be designed to cater to regional families who, in most cases, only have the chance to do their learn-to-swim classes throughout the holiday break. The Booster Block Program will also be beneficial for those swimmers coming back in after an extended time out of the water. Because of their 'intensive lesson' nature, Booster Blocks can also be used to help children struggling with a particular skill or section of the Level Progression.
More in-depth explanation: Gaining confidence and learning-to-swim to an appropriate level (a basic safety level in the water) is an extremely difficult process for children because of their limited coordination and neuromuscular development. The ONLY way to learn these skills is through regular, repetitive drills, practising them the CORRECT way. Perpetual Programs WILL foster faster water confidence, water safety and learn-to-swim development by stopping the ‘3 steps forward, 1 step back’ effect of Term Programs with holiday breaks in between.
